Powell Industries, Inc. Data Analyst in Houston, Texas

As part of the IT Product Design and Manufacturing team, this position will wear several hats including business requirements gathering, system/technical design, coding and testing, implementation, and production support/on-call. The role is responsible for understanding business processes and the requirements associated with requested changes, and for designing solutions tailored to improve existing business processes. The role is also responsible for working with internal customers to create and modify the data structures and process required to deliver data insights and visualizations.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Design, code, test at multiple system levels (individual, integrated system, performance), implement, and provide advanced support for systems, third-party packages and data warehouses.
  • Apply enterprise software design standards and follow enterprise software design methodologies to effectively code and deliver systems.
  • Be an expert in an area of the broad business intelligent toolset (search-and-exploration tools, operational reporting tools, advanced visualization tools, etc.).
  • Work with technical teams within group as well as outside group to ensure effective delivery of systems. Provide support to multiple teams within specific areas of expertise.
  • Develop multiple levels of test plans and scripts (individual, system integration, business partner) and execute testing both individually and within testing teams.
  • Develop the capability to act as team lead on projects.
  • Perform all duties in a manner consistent with TECHs Agile Mindset and Methodology culture.
  • Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned and the scope of the job may change as necessitated by business demands.
  • Works with IT application owners to identify requirements to satisfy business needs
  • Participates as a member of the project team to ensure the optimal design solution is understood and adopted
  • Design, develop, and modify high quality, high performing SQL queries to drive reports or data models
  • Conduct data analysis as per project requirements
  • Ability to convert business requirement into meaningful and explanatory visualization
  • Understand and review various source specification documents and define data derivation and mapping rules for extracting data from various data sources
  • Create mockup layout design and wireframes using visualization features available in traditional BI tools such as Tableau, Periscope Data, Power BI, Spotfire, etc.
  • Create content narratives that help explain the insights being provided whether by traditional documentation or presentation
  • Ability to complete troubleshooting, problem resolution, project management and technology evaluation to meet business requirements

Job Requirements:

Required Skills :

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field; or the equivalent.1-4 years of experience
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to think critically and solve complex issues
  • Proficiency in ANSI SQL
  • Capstone solutions that required data analysis
  • Business operations experience that allows an individual to talk with business stakeholders to uncover and define project requirements
  • Understanding of Agile Scrum development concepts
  • Data Centric individual with data modeling and design experience
  • Good in data storytelling and chart optimization
  • Must be able to follow a software design and development methodology for the specific role required on a project.
  • Ability to influence without authority
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to work well independently and within cross-functional teams
  • Innovative and solution-driven mindset

Highly Desirables Skills :

  • Project experience in Life Sciences – Supply chain area is highly preferable
  • Prefer experience with Oracle Fusion Middleware including OBIEE, ODI and BIP and sourcing information from Oracle Application products Siebel, EBS, OTM and custom built application systems.
  • Experience in advance analytic techniques such as machine learning, natural language processing (NLP), or statistics a plus.
  • Must be able to follow a software design and development methodology for the specific role required on a project.
  • Experience in Big Data ecosystems (Map-R) and advanced BI and visualization tools (Tableau, JavaScript D3 library, Python, etc.) preferred.Experience/knowledge in Data warehousing and/or ETL processes
  • Experience in advance analytic techniques such as machine learning, natural language processing (NLP), or statistics a plus.
  • Experience with agile or iterative software development methodologies a plus.
  • MS Team Foundation Server/ Azure Dev Ops or equivalent backlog tracking and work management tool
  • A strong concept of data standardization and data normalization
